TOUPPER(3) BSD Library Functions Manual TOUPPER(3)

NAME

ttoouuppppeerr, ttoouuppppeerrll - lower case to upper case letter conversion

LLIIBBRRAARRYY

Standard C Library (libc, -lc)

SYNOPSIS

##iinncclluuddee <>

int ttoouuppppeerr(int c);

##iinncclluuddee <>

int ttoouuppppeerrll(int c, localet loc);

DESCRIPTION

The ttoouuppppeerr() function converts a lower-case letter to the corresponding

upper-case letter. For single C chars locales (see multibyte(3)) the

value of the argument is representable as an unsigned char or the value of EOF. While the ttoouuppppeerr() function uses the current locale, the ttoouuppppeerrll()

function may be passed a locale directly. See xlocale(3) for more infor-

mation.

RETURN VALUES

If the argument is a lower-case letter, the ttoouuppppeerr() function returns

the corresponding upper-case letter if there is one; otherwise the argu-

ment is returned unchanged. CCOOMMPPAATTIIBBIILLIITTYY The 4.4BSD extension of accepting arguments outside of the range of the unsigned char type in locales with large character sets is considered obsolete and may not be supported in future releases. The ttoowwuuppppeerr() function should be used instead.
