NAME

ldappasswd - change the password of an LDAP entry

SYNOPSIS

llddaappppaasssswwdd [-AA] [-aa oldPasswd] [-tt oldpasswdfile] [-DD binddn] [-dd debu-

glevel] [-HH ldapuri] [-hh ldaphost] [-nn] [-pp ldapport] [-SS] [-ss new-

Passwd] [-TT newpasswdfile] [-vv] [-WW] [-ww passwd] [-yy passwdfile]

[-OO security-properties]] [-II] [-QQ] [-UU authcid] [-RR authcid] [-xx]

[-XX authzid] [-RR realm] [-YY mech] [-ZZ[[ZZ]]] [user]

DESCRIPTION

llddaappppaasssswwdd is a tool to set the password of an LDAP user. llddaappppaasssswwdd uses the LDAPv3 Password Modify (RFC 3062) extended operation.

llddaappppaasssswwdd sets the password of associated with the user [or an option-

ally specified user]. If the new password is not specified on the com-

mand line and the user doesn't enable prompting, the server will be asked to generate a password for the user. llddaappppaasssswwdd is neither designed nor intended to be a replacement for ppaasssswwdd(1) and should not be installed as such. OOPPTTIIOONNSS

-AA Prompt for old password. This is used instead of specifying the

password on the command line.

-aa oldPasswd

Set the old password to oldPasswd.

-tt oldPasswdFile

Set the old password to the contents of oldPasswdFile.

-xx Use simple authentication instead of SASL.

-DD binddn

Use the Distinguished Name binddn to bind to the LDAP directory.

-dd debuglevel

Set the LDAP debugging level to debuglevel. llddaappppaasssswwdd must be compiled with LDAPDEBUG defined for this option to have any effect.

-HH ldapuri

Specify URI(s) referring to the ldap server(s).

-hh ldaphost

Specify an alternate host on which the ldap server is running.

Deprecated in favor of -H.

-pp ldapport

Specify an alternate TCP port where the ldap server is listen-

ing. Deprecated in favor of -H.

-nn Do not set password. (Can be useful when used in conjunction

with -vv or -dd)

-SS Prompt for new password. This is used instead of specifying the

password on the command line.

-ss newPasswd

Set the new password to newPasswd.

-TT newPasswdFile

Set the new password to the contents of newPasswdFile.

-vv Increase the verbosity of output. Can be specified multiple

times.

-WW Prompt for bind password. This is used instead of specifying

the password on the command line.

-ww passwd

Use passwd as the password to bind with.

-yy passwdfile

Use complete contents of passwdfile as the password for simple authentication.

-OO security-properties

Specify SASL security properties.

-II Enable SASL Interactive mode. Always prompt. Default is to

prompt only as needed.

-QQ Enable SASL Quiet mode. Never prompt.

-UU authcid

Specify the authentication ID for SASL bind. The form of the ID depends on the actual SASL mechanism used.

-RR realm

Specify the realm of authentication ID for SASL bind. The form of the realm depends on the actual SASL mechanism used.

-XX authzid

Specify the requested authorization ID for SASL bind. authzid must be one of the following formats: ddnn::> or uu::..

-YY mech

Specify the SASL mechanism to be used for authentication. If it's not specified, the program will choose the best mechanism the server knows.

-ZZ[[ZZ]] Issue StartTLS (Transport Layer Security) extended operation. If

you use -ZZZZ, the command will require the operation to be suc-

cessful
